New Hero: Lenore Black

Lenore Black

AURORE sat down with snake-wearing, trauma-healing, shadow-seducing Lenore Black to discuss her work as a sex witch.

For the uninitiated, explain what you do as a sex witch?

As a sex witch I guide others in playing with their shadows and unconscious as a pathway to invoking their sexual power. I feel like witches are masters of making the unseen, seen—and that’s basically what I do. Holding space for all parts of ourselves to be seen. I work a lot with sexual healing as well, and I believe that ritual and magic are powerful tools for working with trauma.

What are some misconceptions people have about your practice?

That it is scary! I promise it is not as scary as it sounds.  I think a lot of people are deeply afraid of owning their deepest desires, but owning them doesn’t have to mean letting them control you.  This is definitely intense work, but the rewards that come with creating a relationship with your trauma and shame is something that will change your life for the better.

Why should we all "seduce our shadow"?

Seducing your shadow allows you permission to not only accept your fantasies and desires, but to also get off wildly on them.  It’s one thing to become aware of your patterns and blocks, but it’s another thing to realize that a part of you actually gets off on them.  I believe that unapologetically accepting ourselves and loving the parts of ourselves that we repress the most is one of the biggest acts of self compassion we can have.

Describe your shadow. How did you first get in touch with her//begin your journey as a sex witch?

My journey as a sex witch began through childhood sexual trauma.  I developed a very toxic relationship to my sexuality, and I knew that the only person that was going to be able to reclaim my body and my sexuality was me.  I began playing with kink and discovered that I could actually have fun with my shadows, instead of feeling like they were running my life.

I have lots of shadows that are always morphing and shifting, but one that I love playing with is my little girl, I think of her a lot like my inner child.  She is really sweet, wants to be the favorite, and is very needy and clingy.  She allows me to play with parts of my personality that I don’t own in my everyday life, and she’s a fun outlet so that I still feel like these parts of myself are being seen.

Can I work with you if I’ve never cast a spell before?

Yes, I actually don’t work much with spells, but more with ritual and the powerful transformations that occur within them.  Ritual to me is creating a space that is outside of your everyday life, and using that as a container for your healing and growth.  Rituals are more repetitive than spells, so I think they can create a bigger impact.

Tell us about Coven. Are you still accepting new members?

Yes!  After being censored by Instagram and almost losing my account, I knew I needed to create a space that allowed more sexual expression, and I am so excited to now have this membership group for sex witches to express themselves.  Coven is a community where you can share sexy photos, and be witnessed and get support on what you are feeling. It also has its own course that takes you through my favorite sexual healing practices and rituals.

For those who might be intimidated by the deep work involved, what is the most fun thing about working with a sex witch?

Getting horny!!  I think deep work can seem intimidating, but what others don’t realize is that it’s actually wickedly fun.  This is why I like to use eroticism as the channel, because it allows my clients to access those deeper parts of themselves, and it gets to be fun and pleasurable in the process.

What's the most rewarding part of your work?

Watching others grow.  I truly think that it only takes one person fully owning themselves to inspire others to do the same, and it’s such an honor to be a part of that process for others and create a ripple effect throughout the collective.

Can you share a quick spell or ritual for our followers to try out?

My favorite ritual is to take a few deep breaths, and begin breathing into your chest, then your stomach, and then your genitals or pelvic area.  Once you reach the genitals, keep breathing and notice what comes up.  Do you feel tension, numbness, or arousal?  Moving the breath down through the body helps anchor you and connect you to your erotic energy, or your blocks.  Plus you can do it in public, pretty kinky!
